Frequently Asked Questions
Session Essentials
Common insights into how emotional awareness practice operates and what to anticipate during your sessions.
What is an Emotional
Awareness Specialist?
How are you different from a therapist?
Are you a life coach?
An Emotional Awareness Specialist helps people better understand their emotions, recognize the thoughts and beliefs influencing those emotions, and develop the skills to regulate them in healthy ways. My focus is on teaching emotional awareness so you can stop reacting unconsciously from how you feel and start responding consciously to how you feel.
Therapists are licensed mental health professionals who diagnose and treat mental health conditions. I do not diagnose, treat, or provide therapy.
My role is educational. I teach emotional awareness, emotional regulation, self-awareness, and practical tools that help people better understand themselves and make more intentional decisions.
No. Life coaches typically help clients achieve specific personal or professional goals by creating action plans and providing accountability. My work focuses on helping people understand their emotional experiences, identify unconscious patterns, and develop greater emotional awareness so they can make healthier decisions for themselves.
Experience & Expectations
Who It Is For & What Happens
Who are your services for?
What happens during a session?
Will you tell me what decisions I should make?
My services are for anyone who wants to better understand themselves and improve the way they navigate their emotions. Many of my clients struggle with emotional triggers, relationship challenges, anxiety, overthinking, childhood experiences, low self-worth, communication difficulties, or simply feeling stuck in unhealthy patterns.
Every session is a conversation centered around helping you better understand your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Depending on the service you choose, we may explore emotional patterns, identify unconscious beliefs, improve communication, process difficult experiences, or discuss practical ways to respond more consciously in everyday life.
No. My goal isn’t to tell you what to do. My goal is to help you understand yourself well enough that you can make informed decisions that align with your values, needs, and intentions.
Can you help with relationships?
What if I don’t know what I’m feeling?
Is everything we discuss confidential?
Yes.
Healthy relationships begin with self-awareness. Whether you’re navigating romantic relationships, family dynamics, friendships, or workplace relationships, emotional awareness can improve communication, conflict resolution, boundaries, and emotional understanding.
That’s completely okay.
Many people were never taught how to identify or understand their emotions. Part of my work is helping you develop the awareness to recognize what you’re experiencing and understand where those emotions are coming from.
I value privacy and treat every conversation with respect and discretion.
However, because I am not a licensed therapist or healthcare provider, our conversations are not protected by therapist-client privilege. If you have questions about privacy, I’m happy to discuss them before we begin.
Do I need to be going through a difficult time to book a session?
What can I expect to gain from working with you?
Absolutely. That’s exactly what the Conversation with Najee session is designed for. Whether you’re curious about emotional awareness, relationships, philosophy, personal growth, or another topic, you’re welcome to book a conversation simply to explore ideas and hear my perspective.
Not at all. Many people work with me because they want to understand themselves better, strengthen their emotional intelligence, improve their relationships, or continue growing personally. Emotional awareness is valuable whether you’re facing challenges or simply investing in yourself.
While every person’s journey is different, many clients leave with greater self-awareness, improved emotional regulation, healthier communication skills, increased confidence, stronger relationships, and a deeper understanding of themselves.
The goal isn’t to become emotionless. The goal is to become emotionally aware.
Core Concepts
Emotional Regulation & Conscious Response
What does emotional regulation actually mean? Emotional regulation isn’t about suppressing emotions or pretending they don’t exist. It means learning how to experience emotions without allowing them to automatically control your words, behaviors, or decisions.
What does 'respond consciously instead of reacting unconsciously' mean? An unconscious reaction happens automatically, often without awareness or intention. A conscious response happens after you’ve taken the time to understand what you’re feeling, why you’re feeling it, and how you want to respond. The goal isn’t to eliminate emotions. The goal is to become aware enough that your emotions inform your decisions instead of controlling them.
I believe emotions are messengers, not enemies. Every emotion carries valuable information about our thoughts, beliefs, experiences, needs, or perceptions. When we learn to understand what our emotions are communicating, we gain the ability to make intentional choices instead of unconscious reactions.
Healing begins with awareness. Lasting change begins with understanding.
Yes. Every decision you make is influenced by how you think and how you feel. When you become more aware of your emotions and the unconscious patterns influencing your behavior, you gain the ability to make more intentional choices.
Emotional awareness doesn’t eliminate life’s challenges, but it changes the way you experience and respond to them. Instead of reacting automatically from fear, anger, shame, guilt, or insecurity, you learn to pause, understand what your emotions are communicating, and respond consciously in a way that aligns with your values and intentions.
I believe lasting transformation doesn’t begin when your circumstances change. It begins when your level of awareness changes. As your emotional awareness grows, so does your ability to navigate relationships, communicate effectively, make healthier decisions, and create a life that’s driven by intention rather than unconscious reactions.
Can emotional awareness change my life?
